Hi, folks!

I've been shopping for a new host for our church's web site and am impressed by what I'm reading about TCH. I'm ready to sign us up, but I've not changed hosting providers before and have a couple of questions:

Once I upload our code to your servers, how do I change our domain name to point to TCH rather than the old host?

If I decide to transfer our domain registration to TCH, should that be done before or after the change of the hosting?

Thanks for your help with this.

Thanks for choosing TotalChoice Hosting and Welcome to your new home!

If you ever need anything just ask, we love to help!

When you get your account you will receive instructions about changing the name services on your domain name. All that means is that you will need to go to the company you purchased your domain name from and tell them to point to our servers here instead of where they are now.

This change will take 24-72 hours to propagate across the internet but after that, everyone will come to the site here instead of that one. If you have the same pages on both sites then no one will even notice the change!

You can transfer the domain name hosting to us if you wish and it can be done at any time. As long as the old registrar updates your DNS records as mentioned above that change would be seemless also.

Best wishes!

Hi, folks - I've signed up for an account, gotten my welcome email, and now I'm trying to transfer the domain to TCH. When I try, I get the response:

"WWW.FAYETTENATIVITY.COM - This name is unavailable for transfer. "

Am I doing something wrong?

THANKS for the help!

I see no reason from the WhoIs lookup of the domain that would suggest why the domain cannot be transferred. I would suggest logging into your registrar's site and look to see if the domain is listed as "locked" for some reason.

That said, you don't have to TRANSFER the domain to TCH just to make your site go live here. All you really MUST do is change the DNS entries from:

NS.SPEEDFACTORY.NET

NS2.SPEEDFACTORY.NET

to

NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

For more specific instructions, you may find information on changing DNS entries at the TotalChoice Hosting Help Site. Movie tutorials for many of the popular registrars.

Dear Lianna - thanks for the gentle steer in the right direction. The problem is that, over time and many hands at the controls, the information on the domain name registrar is lost.

I've submitted a request to transfer to TCH (which worked this time - go figure!) and contacted the fellow who is listed as our administrative contact, hoping that the email address in the whois data base is valid. If you can think of anything else that might work better, please let me know! Otherwise, I'm here keeping my fingers crossed.

Again - THANKS.

If this attempt doesn't go, please PM me and we can talk. I just want to make sure that the registry info I'm seeing is what I think I'm seeing. Let's get this name back in control. ;)
