Soni Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 A friend of mine has been hosting my site for a couple years now, but I see that Id have more options if I was to switch to hosting with this company (and for really cheap too), so I definitely am going to move to you guys. But where to start?? He has my domain registered, but he said he'd have no problem with turning it over to me. So I'd have to get the domain registered, right? I want to do this as seamlessly as possible, so what would be the best way to do it?? About your bulletin board option (I do believe that I saw that listed as something that is included in hosting), is setting it up easy or do you have to go though some kind of programming thing to get it all set up? Also, from time of payment, how long will it take for a domain transfer and switch of hosting (I'd have to re-upload my files, I know) before everything is set up and viewable on the web? Lastly, is the software that makes picture galleries already installed on here (I don't need it, but it'd be nice if you already have it). Quote
TCH-Andy Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 Hi Soni, I would start by deciding which of our web hosting plans is right for you, and then simple click on the order button at the bottom of the page on the plan you want. Your account will be set up within 12 hours of us recieving payment. You can then upload your website to our servers. You can then ask your friend to change your domain to point to our servers. - Your site will then be live around the world within 72 hours. I would then look at transferring the domain name into your own name, from your friends. A bulletin board is relatively easy to set up - just a few clicks of buttons. There are plenty of people here who will help you make a few modifications to the bulletin board, help you install picture galleries software etc. Andy Quote
Soni Posted October 18, 2003 Author Posted October 18, 2003 I was thinking about starting off with the $5/month plan and upgrading it if I needed anything more than that. Do you have to pay the fee upfront or do you pay month by month? I don't know, but is there a fee for making the domain point from one server to another? I'm going to try and take care of this all this afternoon. Thanks again, Soni Quote
TCH-Andy Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 Soni, Yes, you can pay month by month. No, there should be no fee for changing the domain from pointing at one server to another. Andy Quote
Deverill Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 Soni, I want to second what Andy said... just drop a note in the forums and you'll have tons of help, usually within minutes to hours. I've seen these folks explain some fairly involved things to the newest of beginners and they have patience and a heart to help. Afterall, you're not just another customer for TCH or their customers - you're family here! Quote
