My first suggestion would be to drop FrontPage. The HTML it produces is very non-compliant with the W3C standards and it's usually a big mess. In your case, it even produced HTML that Mozilla doesn't understand at all!! :)

For instance, I don't think there's any "picture" tag defined in HTML or XHTML. It must be a IE-only tag, which means no browsers other than IE will see the pictures.

It also uses the long ago deprecated "layer" tag, which was used mostly (exclusively?) by Netscape Navigator, if I'm not mistaken... which is odd... MS using NS tags? :D

Take a look at this:

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%....0+Transitional

Anyway, I'd suggest you'd use one of the many photo-gallery scripts that exist on the web, like Gallery or Coppermine.

First of all, you get an administration backend to upload your photos, update them, delete, comment, uncommet, etc.

Their code is also much more standards compliant than Frontpage's.

And if you go with Gallery or Coppermine, you even have installation instructions right here on the TCH Help Pages:

Coppermine: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/help/id163.htm

Gallery: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/help/id168.htm

Of course you also have these foruns to ask for help. Actually, if you search for it, there's already some posts about using Gallery here at TCH.

So... if I still didn't convince you on dropping Frontpage to build your photo gallery, drop me a line and I'll try to work out the code with you. :)

I do not believe that!

You learned to create a site.

You learned frontpage, and put a site up on the internet.

That is more than a lot of people have done.

As to learning html, it may be easier that learning frontpage.

You only need a few commands to make a page.

You learn a few, make a site, learn a few more, make a better site.

After the first few commands the rest are easy.

In any case, it is always handy to be able to read html to use parts or modify html you see some where else.

I know you can learn it.

I did, and is saying a lot.

There are many sites to teach basic html.

Here is one of my favorites.

www.boogiejack.com/html_tutorials.html

You can practice on your computer until you are ready to put a site up,

then put it into a sub folder to start, to keep your current site intact.

And there are many here who will help.

Bohatir,

Are you familiar with the Microsoft Newsgroups? Messages in the Frontpage newsgroup are regularly answered by someone from Microsoft. I've found it to be a pretty good resource over the years - and not just for Frontpage.

microsoft.public.frontpage.client

Concering Frontpage galleries, here's a link that was recently posted on that newsgroup that might be of some help - helps explain why you are having problems:

Frontpage Gallery Help

I understand not wanting to change from Frontpage. I've gone through three upgrades myself, am comfortable with it - and don't want to spend $350 for Dreamweaver. Although I suppose I would if I had large complicated websites.

TCH also offers a gallery - if the instructions don't scare you off:

Bohatir, you don't need to learn HTML to use a photo-gallery like the ones I mentioned. You can even keep frontpage to make the rest of your website, if you want.

The only thing you need to do is change a couple of lines in the configuration file of the software to adjust database usernames and passwords (the instructions on how to do this come with the package) and then upload everything to your account - and you already know how to do that :)

After that, the software has an installation script that takes care of everything for you! :)

As to learning HTML, I guarantee you that it's not hard at all. And, just as turtle said, you have lots of online resources to learn from.

I'll recommend a classic that comes back from the days when MS didn't even have Internet Explorer yet (those were the days ): The Bare Bones Guide to HTML

(don't worry, it has been updated as time moves on and now it has settled on HTML 4.0, which is a good starting point to learn)

Anyway, back to the gallery stuff, at least give it a try. You can't tell if you are able to do it until you try it, right? And if you need help, you know where to ask ;)

Bohatir,

I had only used FrontPage when creating websites before moving to TCH. I know HTML like I know theoretical physics. I have since picked up a few HTML codes but dont use them often. I found a PHP based shopping cart and found I only needed to make a few modifications to fit my needs. When getting a premade package there are usualy great instructions on what minor changes you need to make.

I was not great at PHP either but I found it easy to look at what is there and make the changes to suit my needs versus trying to learn it from scratch.

I have come pretty far in only a few months with a couple of hours a week working at it.

Trust me, if I can do it anybody can.
