This is the first time I am using the forum, so if I do something wrong or inappropriate, please forgive me.

I am having at least 5 or 6 messages a day saying that certain messages are undeliverable, but I never sent them. I don't know if it is a virus (because the messages they said I sent kind of looks like a virus message like subject lines that say "that movie"), but I have updated and scanned the last few days with Norton's, and it says there's no viruses.

I think like a month or 2 ago you guys sent some type of message saying that there were flaws in the mail program allowing hackers to do things. Could that be a problem? I don't know. I have about 10 addresses on the system, but only one seems to be giving problems. Can someone please shed some light on this?

On a side note, I am trying to keep messages on the server for a few days. When I set it up in outlook express, it will work for like 2 hours, and then it downloads all the messages again. After it downloaded the messages 5 seperate times in 6 hours, I turned it off. I would like to keep the messages on the board for a whilefor other employees to view them, but still have a copy of each message on my computer, is there anything you could suggest to correct the situation?

Thanks

Hi,

1) A virus called Sobig variant F is responsible for your emails. However your machine is most likely not infected if you have updated it and running anti virus software. Also note that your account never sent the emails. A particular annoying feature of this virus is that is changes the "reply back to" bit so that it looks like you sent it when infact some poor other person did by mistake. However its virtually impossible to track who sent them. Delete them, dont open the attachements is all you can do. I am currentley numbering just under 300 in my delete items bit at present

2) Formail is no longer accessible, however it is not the cause of your problem

3) There is a setting in Outlook which allows you to copy the email down from the server but leave the original on the server. I am also sure there is a setting to delete such email after a set time from the server

Any more questions, feel free to ask!

Outlook Express and Outlook (98 and later) all have the ability to leave mail on the server to to deleteit after a set number of days. In Outlook (I don't use Express), go to Accounts in the Tool menu. When you get there, go to the Advanced tab. You'll find the opions you're looking for at the bottom. Outlook

Express handles it the same way.

I use this handy feature to delete ALL mail that I download form my personal account and leave our shared mail on the server long enough for my wife to access it after me on her computer. I do the same on her computer for her personal mail account and our shared account.
