Head Guru Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 Please be advised that a good portion of the eastern United States and portions of Canada have been effected by a huge power blackout. Details can be found at cnn.com or any other major news outlet. The TCH Network Operations Center lost its power at approximately 4:43pm today. We have been running on backup generators since the blackout occurred. This is not effecting the quality of service provided to our clients at this time. You may notice a slight delay in email and non-emergency help desk ticket responses. All the data centers are 100% operational and are NOT effected by this blackout. Even if they were, each DC is equipped with Diesel Generators that would run until the power was restored. Remember the fires at EV1? We ran our servers on generator power for over one week when that occurred. Stay calm, everything is business as usual here at TCH.
Spinland Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 It's 7:20 Eastern US time and we just got power back in our part of NY state (east and south of Syracuse). Things seem to be coming back on-line well enough, based on the local reports.

Head Guru Posted August 15, 2003 Author Posted August 15, 2003 I have just hung up the phone with all the Data Centers. I wanted to confirm with each one that they are not running on dc power. In fact all Data Centers are up and running on utility power.
