Mrs. Muddled Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Seems Powerpoint previewer didn't make it to my new computer when I switched over. I've downloaded it from Tucows but that's as far as I've got. It has an extension of .sit and I don't know what or how to associate the download with a program that will make it work. MM Quote
MikeJ Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 You'd have to get StuffIt from smithmicro.com to unstuff it, but if it's a .sit file, it more than likely is for a Mac, not Windows. I'd suggest checking and making sure the version you download is indeed for Windows first. Quote

Now I'm trying to open a files in my emails that I want to view and I'm not sure how to start a path to the powerpoint previewer. It used to find the viewer automatically. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 When you install it there should be an association set up for it. If not when you try to open it and it asks what program to use, select PowerPoint Viewer and check the box to always open files of that type with that program. Quote

I tried opening it right from Windows Mail and it still wont open. It tells me I have to associate it to a program but I can't figure out what more I can do ... considering I've already made the preview program the default. Quote

Let me take a guess here, have you rebooted or closed and reopened Windows Mail since you installed the viewer? I suspect that if you do one of these it might work. Play it safe and reboot and try Mail again. Quote

TCH-Bruce Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Save the attachment to your hard drive. I am assuming the extension is either .ppt or .pps Now open Windows Explorer and go to where you saved the file. Right click on the file, there should be an Open With option, select it. You may have to hold down the CTRL key while right clicking to see it. A list of installed programs will come up. Select PowerPoint Viewer and check the box to always open files of this type with it. Now you should be able to view the document and you should be able to view them by opening attachments at that point. If that still doens't work I am out of options. Quote
