Mrs. Muddled Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 A friend has sent me several photographs. I want to add these photographs to an online baby album I am making. When I try to add these .jpg pictures to the album, instead of opening like all my other pictures - they automatically open in an Irfanview frame and my album program doesn't recognize the photos and will not let me drag and drop them. My friend does not know how to send the photos as simple files - I have no idea what she's doing. It's probably very obvious to someone "out there" how I get my photos out of the Irfanview program and into MY PICTURES folder as simple .jpg files. I can't figure out how to do it. I KNOW I'm going to be really embarrassed when you tell me what to do - but that's pretty much why I keep returning to this forum - it keeps me humble. Quote
nortk Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 So, when you say you try to open a picture...are you "opening" by double-clicking files that are on your desktop? Or do you mean that you have a link to the image in your web browser, and then you "open" that link, or do you mean something else? It sounds like Irfanview might be associated with your .jpg files as the default program for viewing them...that's how my computer is set up too. But if I want to open them in another program, then I have to first open that other program and then use that program's File/Open...or something along those lines. If the problem is that photos you upload then open up with Irfanview, rather than opening in your web browser, then the issue might be with your web browser. Your web browser keeps a list of how to handle various filetypes. For example, if you use Firefox, go to Tools/Options/Content, there is a section that says, "Configure how Firefox handles certain types of files". You may find that somehow, jpg files became assigned to Irfanview. This is all speculation though. If you have a little more information about what steps cause the problem, someone might be able to better pinpoint a solution. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 IrfanView opens digital files with multiple extensions. Are you sure they are .jpg files it's opening? You can always do a Save As and save a copy in .jpg format if that's what your Photo Album software is expecting. Quote
Mrs. Muddled Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 IrfanView opens digital files with multiple extensions. Are you sure they are .jpg files it's opening? You can always do a Save As and save a copy in .jpg format if that's what your Photo Album software is expecting. As you can see, when I would click on these photos to open them, instead of opening just the photo, it would open what you see in the screen shot. I'm thinking it has something to do with the way the photos were sent to me via email. These two photos were on Shutterfly. When I tried to work with them I discovered they were such low resolution that I couldn't do anything with them, even on Shutterfly. The photographer was not able to find the original digital photos. The folks at Bookdesigner website actually did something with the pictures on Photoshop and fixed them for me so that I was able to add them to my album. Thanks for trying to help. I realized after I posted that no one was going to have a clue what I was blathering on about! Cheers! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I don't see why you couldn't just browse to the folder with the images in your album software to add them. Quote
Mrs. Muddled Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 Would seem like it should be easy. Wasn't. They were soundly rejected by the album pages. Anyhoo, album is pretty much done now and I'm pleased with it. MM Quote
