ive used geocities and angelfire before and this is a little more complicated..

 

how do you make the index? the page that shows up when you do www.bigmound.com

right now i'm uploading everything with ftp onto my public_ftp folder.. is that the right place?

Close but no cigar. . .

 

You need to upload your files to the 'public_html' folder for them to show up.

 

The contents of your public_html folder is what the public will see when they browse to your URL.

There is no need for them to include it in your address.

 

eg.

Files in www.yoursite.com/public_html/

 

show up to people going to

 

www.yoursite.com

 

You will find that you have everything you need in that folder eg.Cgi-bin etc.

 

Just don't forget to include a page called index which will automatically be the first page visitors see.
