Hello,

I notice that TCH offers SMF Bulletin Board version 1.1.2 as a part of Fantastico. I need a bulletin board that will permit Moderator approval for all posts (prior to making them public).

SMF version 1.1.2 does not permit Moderator approval of posts. SMF version 2.0 does permit Moderator approval of posts.

If I install SMF v. 1.1.2 in cPanel using Fantastico, can I then upgrade to SMF v. 2.0 to get the Moderator approval that I need? If so, is there a tutorial I can read to assist me?

Thanks,

As thomas said, once 2.0 is released (probably not until the end of the year as it won't even be in public Beta until around October), it should be available in Fantastico as an upgrade for 1.1.2 assuming SMF provides a suitable upgrade path to 2.0 (which I assume most likely they will).

If you want 2.0 prior to it's official release (i.e., run it as a beta which is risky), you'd have to upgrade it manually.

Welcome to the forum, Tom :)

When 2.0 is in fantastico you can upgrade there with a few mouse clicks

or manually when 2.0 is released.

When that time comes the family will try to help if you need it.

If I remember correctly, SMF has a feature that allows you to make upgrades from withing the application itself. So chances are good that you'd be able to install whatever version Fantastico has and then when the SMF people make the newest version available, you'd just click the upgrade button in the SMF admin area.

I have my problems with SMF, but I think they have made upgrading easier than any other web-based app that I've ever seen. SMF's upgrade stuff is dang cool!

But this won't be an option yet, because as mentioned above, 2.x won't even be available in beta form for a number of months. The one-click upgrade won't work until AFTER the beta run finishes.
