makaveli Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 i cant get no sleep well.. that sums it up perfectly! around 2 nights a week i cant sleep (normally the ones like now leading up to 9am starts) and it's a pain to say the least, i'm missing scheduled events etc etc. and missing the day, infact sometimes (say a weekend) i sleep 7am-5pm i see no daylight! is there anything that can be done to help? im staying away from any chemical/drugs route, as sleeping tablets/syrups are not a good idea (in my opinion) something to be relied upon! just like beer, ok once or twice but not for larger cases. it's mainly i think, my head doesnt 'shut down' or things like high wind get on my nerves. TCH-Andy Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I'm not an expert on this area ... so my real advice would be go and see a professional My understanding is that you should look over several weeks and work out what your average total amount of sleep is (that way you can work out what your body needs). You should then arrange a regular patten for going to bed (so that you can get what you need on average before you need to get up in the morning). If at any stage you can't get to sleep within 20 mins, then you should get up, go to a quiet place, and rest (don't go and work on the computer, watch TV, read a book or anything - just rest, eyes closed etc, but not in bed) then, after 30 mins there, go back to bed. PeterPeter Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Actually haveing a read in a quite room is recommended by Sleep Therapists and Sleep Units but not the others as Andy has said. Having a warm glass of milk is said to have calming sleeping effects as well. Generally don't drink coffee about 8 hrs before going to sleep, alcohol can be a stimilant too, although in small doses like a I AM A SPAMMER of scotch can help to get to dreamland. It is always difficult to sleep in hours outside the norm, like during the day as the bodies natural clock does play a big part in telling the head when to go to sleep and wake up. So you are fighting that as well. I have done many months of working nights and sleeping during the day, and it can be difficult and disorientating as well. Just try to keep to a routine is a big key. I do have a health background and friends in the sleep disorders industry so have discussed this at length with them. Hope that helps. Quote
