When I save my page (using the cpanel html editing software) sometimes there are capital "A" 's with little "hats" above them inserted by some of my text. Anyone know why? I've tried various ways of deleting them w/backspacing, copy/cut, delete key and highlight/spacebar. I've also tried deleting them on the 'html code' tab and on the 'design' tab. When I preview the page they are always gone, but come back after I save the page. Thanks!

No idea why but they're called "tilde's". Might help your search for a solution.

I would recommend using something else to edit your html files. The HTML editor in cPanel is buggy.

If you are looking for a WYSIWYG editor then I would suggest that you try Nvu which is a free open source HTML editing software.

To remove those characters you can use File Manager in cPanel using the edit file function.

Thanks for the help. :) At least I know what the little buggers are called. Editing in the "edit file" rather than the html editor took care of the problem. I first noticed them when I uploaded the edited pages from Nvu. Sometimes another one was added every time I saved the file. I could count on them appearing directly before the copyright symbol.

Weird characters in web pages can occur due to improper/incorrect character type designations. Especially does this happen when using WYSIWYG type editors.

Occasionally I've also noticed it when someone creates or edits a web page on a Linux machine it produces the bizarre characters.

The HTML editor in cPanel has been on the agenda to upgrade for a long time, they just have far too many "more important" things to do (like support for Apache 2, 2.x)
