What's A 530 Authenication Error?

hi,

am trying to update a site I built for a friend, which i hadn't touched in about 6 months. i have all her info, but when i try to make even simple changes and publish, I get a "530 Authentication failed, sorry" message window.

 

can anyone translate? is it a matter of re-entering her username/password, or what? (that doesn't' seem to be working either)

The username and password combination you are using is incorrect usually produces that error.

 

You don't say how you are trying to publish. FTP? Frontpage? Dreamweaver?

thanks for your reply...to anwer yyour question below, i'm using <blush> Netscape Composer, from netscape navigator 7.2 (i know, i know...Stone Age technology). will soon transfer the site to FrontPage and will be using FPExtensions...but meanwhile, would like to make small changes (new phone number, etc) for my friend.

 

She may well have changed her own password -- I'll check it out.

I would not recommend Front Page either. If you want a WYSIWYG editor I would suggest using something like NVU.
