Singer Posted June 24, 2003 Posted June 24, 2003 Oops...it looks like I may have done something wrong with my Invision forums. They've been running well for the month I've had them installed, nicely surviving an upgrade to 1.2 beta 2 a week ago or so. Here's what I did: In the interest of shortening the directory path to my Invision forums, I renamed the directory from "membersbulletinboard" to "forums" using CPanel's File Manager. I removed my subdomain for it and created a new one, "forums", redirecting it to the new directory name. I tried to access the forum via the subdomain...IE would not return after a minute or so, before I stopped waiting. I then tried to access the forum using the subdirectory instead of the subdomain name...same thing. I renamed the directory back. When I try to access the directory, I get an immediate "404 File not found error". Checking my error log, there's something really funny showing up: it's looking for the subdirectory "forums" even though I specified the subdirectory "membersbulletinboard" in the URL. Any thoughts? Thanks! Quote
TCH-JimE Posted June 24, 2003 Posted June 24, 2003 Hi, When you set up the forum, alot of background coding is changed in the many different files which points to the original directory. Changing files after the creation of such a forum leads to huge big headaches. I suggest the following: I) Delete the entire forum and start a fresh, making sure all directorys are named correctley before you start II) Start a help desk ticket and ask for the backup to installed. This should restore your forums, but anything you changed anywhere on your site since the backup will be lost Jim Quote
Singer Posted June 25, 2003 Author Posted June 25, 2003 I eventually started a help desk ticket. Rick, thanks for restoring my board! It works like a charm again. If you want to move it you could try backing up the data through InvisionBoard Admin and then create a new board in the directory you want to use and restore the board there. Once it is working you could delete the old one.Rick, I'll follow through on your comments about moving the board over the next few days ... and a little more carefully this time! Quote
