pbrousseau Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Hi, I already have an account with TCH and I would like to add a second domain name to the account. I don't really understand what I would need to do with the second domain, and so I am not sure how to transfer the it. If all I want it to do I direct people to the first site am I parking it or am I doing something else? I don't really care which address people see in the bar as the second domain name is really just for SEO purposes. Also is using your redirect function in cpanel the same as doing a 301 redirect since I understand that is the only way that is accepted by google? Thanks for any help, as I am kind of new to all this. And yes Patricia Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 If you want your visitors to be able to view same content for the 2 domains, then you can park domain 2 on top of the first one. This is easily done by the helpdesk. If you want them to to point to different content, you either need a reseller account for 2 virtual accounts as per the AUP. Quote

What info does HelpDesk need from me to make this happen? Thanks again, Patricia Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 First you will need to ask your registrar to point domain 2, to the same nameservers as domain 1 (or if the registrar have a control panel, you can do it yourself). Then you will only need to submit a ticket to our helpdesk and ask them to park domain 2 on number 1. That´s all you need to do. Quote
abinidi Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 When I've done this in the past, I've had to add a step here. After you change your nameservers to point to TCH (use the same nameservers as your primary domain with TCH), then you have to wait for them to propogate. The help desk can't do the actual parking until the second domain is resolving to your server. Once your domain has propogated, you can open the help desk ticket and ask them to park domain 2 on domain 1. The change is instantaneous at that point (since the domain is already resolving to the TCH server that your account is on). Hope this helps. Quote
chatbug Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 When I parked my extra 2 domains on top of my .org domain, I updated the DNS on those domains and submitted a ticket immediately, after propagation, the domains still worked as normal. So not waiting for propagation didn't seem to be a problem for TCH to park the domains... Quote
abinidi Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Hmmm... Just going off my experience here. Last time I tried to park a domain, the help desk reported that they couldn't do anything until the domains were propogated and resolving to TCH servers. They told me to re-open my ticket after propogation to finish the process. I guess that is changed, in which case, you can just ignore my previous comment. Quote
