ace Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Hello TCH Family I just switched the configuration on our networks AP to use WPA-PSK. The keys are correct but I am getting stuck at "Acquiring network address" I have it configured as a node of the network. (i am using a static IP for the AP) I am not running DHCP on the AP but on the network. The firmware version is 1.07. Any idea i what could be causing this? and how do I correct it please!! My ma used to have a Sony Vaio built on the Centrino platform and it didn't support WPA. Do you have any other machines successfully connected to the AP? Does your laptop connect to the AP if you turn off WPA? Quote

(i am using a static IP for the AP) If you assigned a static IP for the AP does it fit into the range used by the router which is running DHCP for you? DHCP calculates IP's based on a range you specify and the subnet mask and not all numbers in the range will work. Try reassigning an IP in the range that has already been assigned to another device and see if it will work. Do you really need to assign it a static IP? Try letting it acquire an IP from the router like all the other devices. Quote

The DHCP is running on one of our servers and not on the router. The assigned IP to the AP is within the range of the DHCP running on the server. It is strange that it does not work. Thanks Quote
TCH-JimE Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 If your running XP with SP2, disable windows highly annoying "wireless wizard" and run through all the settings manually. If you can, remove the authentication for a moment and try connecting without out it. If it works, then all is good and its a problem with the authentication which makes it easier to pinpoint. With wireless, always start off basic and build yourself up. JimE Quote

Did the laptops work at work before switching to WPA-PSK? Swich back to WPA and see if they connect. Quote
ace Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 I discovered that you need to use Intel's latest drivers to get the centrino to work with D-Links DWL-7000AP. If you don't, when you attempt to connect it will crash the AP. The intel software for centrino is very nice and works much bettter than the windows wireless wizard. Thanks for the help Quote
