I've had several new domains that I registered in the morning and were up by the evening. My main domain took 3 or 4 days to settle down when I moved it from another host. New domains don't have old IP numbers cached in other nameservers so it is usually quicker. Rick's Theorem to Murphy's Law applies, though. "The amount of time it takes for a domain to propagate is inversely proportional to the patience of the domain owner."

I was frustrated with mine a few months ago. At work the prop took about a day with the nameservers our ISP provides. My cheezy dialup provider at home out in the sticks took 6 days! I was livid. This came oh so close to my patience level.

You also have to watch out for even the big name ISP's. I use Verizon.

Real story:

After I made the switch to TCH, everyone and their brother could get to my newly located web site - but not me! I waited 3 days, 4 days, 5 days - and still it didn;t work. I called Verizon and they ssaid that everything was fine on their end.

Well, with help from the TCH gurus, we determined that Verizon had four (4) DNS name servers, and after a full week -- only two of the four Verizon nameservers had been updated or refreshed. I contacted Verizon, they said "no way". I said "Can I send you proof?". I did, and 15 minutes later all was fine!

That is about the most frustrating thing about computers.

When you are trying to troubleshoot something, it is NEVER their fault!

I always try to provide a sequence of events or even supply proof such as you did.

Then they will listen a little. <_<

When I was waiting on my prop. I called the tech support line as recomended by my ISP.

I asked the guy how often their servers were updated since my propagation hasn't taken place.

The tech guy asked me what "Propagte" meant so I knew I needed to fall back and PUNT.

It worked out eventually. Kick Me
