fasttoon Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 I have tmp folders that are larger then the rest of the website, I want to delete this tmp folder or at least the folders/files within it. How do I do this and should this be done? Thanks. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 You will likely lose your stats if you delete the tmp folder in your root directory. I'm not sure if it will rebuild itself if you delete it but I believe it does. Quote
fasttoon Posted June 17, 2003 Author Posted June 17, 2003 Thanks for the info. So will this affect the operation of the website in any way? And if I do delete it, should I delete the tmp folder or just the stuff thats inside? Thanks again. Quote
TCH-Sales Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Well my golden rule usually is: If you don't know what it is or does, don't mess with it! I wouldn't delete the whole tmp folder because that might kill things. (Having stuff looking to dump things in a tmp folder that doesn't exist) I have a feeling though that the stuff inside the tmp folder will probably just rebuild itself though so I'd say just leave it alone. It doesn't take that much space and I'm afraid you'd be more hurt than helped for messing with it. Quote
twowheels Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 If you don't know what it is or does, don't mess with it! Phew, I'd never learn anything that way! Quote
TCH-Sales Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Well I'm not saying don't ask or don't look it up and find the answer. I'm saying don't go deleting stuff if you don't know what it does. Quote
fasttoon Posted June 18, 2003 Author Posted June 18, 2003 The reason I ask is that my tmp folder is I think around 47mb, and the entire website takes 82mb. I don't want that much junk if it is junk, its mainly stats, charts, webalyzer, and stuff. If I can delete the tmp folder stuff then my entire website will shrink down to around 40mb or so. Quote
fasttoon Posted June 18, 2003 Author Posted June 18, 2003 Well I'm not saying don't ask or don't look it up and find the answer. I'm saying don't go deleting stuff if you don't know what it does. Hmm, I still don't know the answer, which is why I posted this question in the first place. Would you say live with it? or is it ok to delete the tmp folder? or if not is it ok to delete the contents of the tmp folder? Thanks for your advice. Quote
TCH-Sales Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Hmm, I still don't know the answer, which is why I posted this question in the first place. Here's your answer I said a few posts earlier... I wouldn't delete the whole tmp folder because that might kill things. (Having stuff looking to dump things in a tmp folder that doesn't exist) Now as far as deleting what's inside the tmp folder, id just be sure your not running anything that relies on on the content inside that folder. If all you have is old AWStats and stuff like that in there, it'll just clean out any history of stats you might have on your page. Quote
fasttoon Posted June 19, 2003 Author Posted June 19, 2003 Thanks. Sorry, I guess I didn't understand that. Yes its stuff from february and march. I'll just delete the contents of the folder. Thanks again. Quote
