Mrs. Muddled Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 In a fit of orderliness (I get these every so often - must be the phase the moon is in) I decided it was time to back up my website, which contains only my Blog. I've yet to graduate beyond that. This time I decided to do the FULL BACKUP, which I've never done before. No sooner had I clicked on that option than I decided to be really efficient and update the home directory that I'd done on January 11th. As soon as I hit the key I realized that what I was hitting was the RESTORE key from the home directory. Now I'm in full panic mode wondering what the heck I've done!!! I await your reply with baited breath. MM Quote
TCH-Rob Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 So, would you be saying that when I view your website that the post dated Jan 14th is not your most recent post? Please forgive my confusion. For a moment I thought your site was gone by reading your post yet I do see things there. Should you be missing things then I would open a ticket with the help desk and ask to see if they can restore your account to the latest backup. In most cases this is no more than a day or so old. Thanks for replying Rob. I have looked at my site and everything seems to be the way I left it. The last thing I put on it was a painting of my granddaughter's ... and it is still there. What did I actually "do" when I hit that RESTORE key? Wouldn't it try to restore right back to the 11th of January when I first backed the home file up? I watched that blue line creep across the bottom of my screen and I had visions of my entire blog disappearing in a matter of seconds! I loathe sounding so ignorant, but fact is, I'll NEVER "understand" all this stuff ... my brain is just too far gone at this point ... thus my handle "Mrs. Muddled." It's a rather accurate description of me. I'll try to stay off the forum ... until I get really desperate. Cheers, MM Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 What RESTORE key? My cPanel has buttons labeled UPLOAD but nothing labeled RESTORE. If you didn't browse for a file to restore it did absolutely nothing in the way of altering your site. Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 The full backup has to be restored by the techs, you cannot restore it For a backup you can restore download the home directory backup, this has all your files in a compressed file Then download your databases as well both the home directory backup and the databases can be restored by using the browse and upload links Quote

I must have clicked on upload. Anyhow ... I don't see anything negative in my blog so I will have to assume that whatever I did ... did not do any damage. So, can I now assume that because I have selected "weekly" ... my website will be backed up weekly at your end and not in my home computer? Do I just click on download a home directory backup when I want to update my home copy? Edit: TCH-Bruce uploaded image as an attachment. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 As far as I have understood in other discussions about the "weekly" backup alternative is that it will be one week old and not the most current if you have made changes within the last 7 days. I would personally manually click the "Home backup" and then the cpanel will start the process of compressing it (what´s inside the public_html I believe) and download it to my home computer. Then click the databases and aliases/filters, if you have any and they will be downloaded exactly like the home backup. Quote
Mrs. Muddled Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 Thank you Thomas. I will "muddle" along. Regards, MM Quote
