I am a new member. I have setup an email for myself. I use Horde to access it, as well as Outlook.

I seem to be able to send and receive email fine all around... but my question is...

I keep hearing about some kind of different port you guys use for email, I could be way off base, but should that prevent me in any way from receiving any email from anybody? Companies? etc?

I have signed up for local phone service and provided the email I created with my TCH service as my contact email, and when I was through with the order it said I will receive a confirmation email shortly with tracking #, etc. that was two days ago I have received nothing. Is there a way an email like this could have been blocked?

My goal is to use my TCH as my MAIN email for all purposes. I dont' want any email from any company/person to be filtered... I want to receive all email sent to me from ANYBODY.

Is this the case? Or is it possibly a problem on Verizon's side and I should indeed be able to receive emails such as this auto-confirmation email?

TIA!

Hi,

I will try and explain this as simply as possible. Please do excuse me if I sound patronising, I will try not too!

To access anything outside your computer, whether its a printer, scanner, email, http etc, the computer must access it through a port which is assigned a port number. Think of it like a long street, each address along the street is a port where you can access certain things, and like each address in a street, its got a unique number.

To access your email from TCH, you would normally access it via port number 2095. As you already access your mail via horde and Outlook, there is no problem with your side.

Companies send email to your account do not use this port number, as the port number above is only for the client to access the email, hence you should be receiving email with no problems to your TCH account. Also since we use a mail server which spools email in-case of any downtime or problems, you do not loose email. Hence I would go back to Verizon and complain about the lack of email you have received.

I hope this explains everything!

Holy Mary Mother Of God that was a quick response.

And no you didn't sound patronizing, I know what ports are but I wasn't sure how they worked with email.

So I think what you're saying is that if I were to use my TCH email as my main email, I should be able to receive any and all email from anybody just as if I were using say... comcast or earthlink or aol or any other ISP?

If so I will be calling Verizon, I guess the problem is on their side.

Thanks again for the quick response.

Hi,

Yes your email should act like any other email any where else in the world, just with more customisation and features!

Do let us know if you have any other problems
