Firefox And Thunderbird Stopped Working ...

Firefox and Thunderbird just stopped making their connections to the Internet and mail server.

 

Firefox says: "The connection was refused when attempting to contact (website)."

 

Thunderbird says: "Could not connect to mail server ... connection was refused."

 

Outlook and SquirrelMail and Internet Explorer still work.

 

I reinstalled both Firefox and Thunderbird, but the problem persists.

 

Any insight on how to remedy?

Have you tried rebooting ?

 

Have you checked the connections settings that Firefox is using? (Tools, options, general, connection settings)

Fixed. When in doubt: REBOOT.
