Is there a way via cPanel or otherwise to split a file on my site? Specifically, I have an email inbox file that's grown to 250 mb because I neglected to check it for a while and it grew and grew and now I can't read it via eudora (says out of memory). I'm thinking if I can split it into a few files, I can read each separately and delete it when done.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I don´t have any ideas on this one except that you can always check, read, delete, answer them through any of the webmails that are installed, which is Horde or Squirrel Mail, both located in your cpanel.

Pix, splitting your inbox file into several files is probably what you need to do...but not the way you are currently thinking. What will probably work is to go online using one of the webmail clients and creating a couple of temp folders (or one) and moving all the emails into them, splitting them up into managable sizes. Once that is done you can move emails back into the inbox, logon using enduro and download that group. Next move the next group into the inbox and download that until you have gotten all your emails.

Now 250MB sounds like a lot of emails. Are there that many or are there just a couple with large files attached? If its large files you might be able to just download them from the webmail client and delete them to make the inbox smaller.

I'm not sure about this and maybe someone else can confirm it but you may be able to use IMAP instead of POP to deal with the messages on the server instead of downloading them all at once. It's just an idea if you're looking for something to research :)

I think Bob's onto a good method though.
