hello

me and my friends plan to setup a site where we can post audio files of our lectures on various topics regularly.

we want the audio files to be streamed in a popup player upon clicking on the given link, so that the audio file is not downloadable and we can put some ads within the popup player window to get back some of the bandwidth costs.

totalchoicehosting is our first priority as we could not find any other host with more flexible and inexpensive hosting plans.

ive been searching online to find a ready-made server side software to do our job but could not find much info about this. i thought why not ask the question here itself.

any information or links to information will be really appreciated. we are looking for a solution which does not need a dedicated server.

thank you

Welcome to the forums nayner

While you can serve audio files from your webspace be aware that they will eat a lot of bandwidth. As such you cannot run anything server side on a virtual account so you are limited to normal http type requests to serve your files.

Nayer, you might look at podcasting as an alternative solution to streaming the audio content. Just in case you need some information on the topic, the folks at Wikipedia are one of the best resources on the subject.

hello bruce

ya i am aware of the bandwidth that wud be taken up..we have calculated that. a shared account would do for us as of now.
