nayner Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 hello me and my friends plan to setup a site where we can post audio files of our lectures on various topics regularly. we want the audio files to be streamed in a popup player upon clicking on the given link, so that the audio file is not downloadable and we can put some ads within the popup player window to get back some of the bandwidth costs. totalchoicehosting is our first priority as we could not find any other host with more flexible and inexpensive hosting plans. ive been searching online to find a ready-made server side software to do our job but could not find much info about this. i thought why not ask the question here itself. any information or links to information will be really appreciated. we are looking for a solution which does not need a dedicated server. thank you Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Welcome to the forum, nayner. Sorry, I don´t have links or knowledge on how to do this, but hold on, there is always someone who knows. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Welcome to the forums nayner While you can serve audio files from your webspace be aware that they will eat a lot of bandwidth. As such you cannot run anything server side on a virtual account so you are limited to normal http type requests to serve your files. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Hey nayner, welcome to the forums. I think Bruce covered it. Quote
stevevan Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Welcome to the forums! As Bruce said, I'd be concerned more with bandwidth usage with these types of files. Quote
Mitch Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Nayer, you might look at podcasting as an alternative solution to streaming the audio content. Just in case you need some information on the topic, the folks at Wikipedia are one of the best resources on the subject. Wikipedia - Podcasting Quote

Steve Verdino Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Hi Nayner, I've found this script recently that does a good job. http://www.gmtt.co.uk/details.php?file=11 However, this script basically creates a playlist so someone -Could- figure out how to download the music files. HTH Quote
