puffer_archer Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Ok, just a quick question. The forum I currently help administer is looking for a new home. It is phpbb and the database currently is around 30 MB. Basically, I just want to make sure that it would be possible to upload that database to totalchoice and what the best way to go about that would be. Thanks for the help! Quote
cajunman4life Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Your best bet would be to download a SQL dump. Install phpBB into your new TCH account as normal, upload the SQL dump to "restore" the database, and everything should be like normal from there. If your previous host uses cpanel, the TCH techs can likely transfer everything over for you, which would be an even better option. Quote
puffer_archer Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 (edited) That's what I was thinking, but I have had problems in the past uploading a large SQL dump. Edited October 26, 2005 by puffer_archer Quote

cajunman4life Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Hmm... perhaps I'll have to create a large DB just to test and see how well it works. Has anyone else tried to upload a large SQL dump? Quote

TweezerMan Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Welcome to the forums, puffer_archer! When you dump your database, you should try to get the dump as a compressed file (.gz). This should reduce the file size by 80-90%, turning your 30MB database into a 3-5MB dump file. Quote
klibreck Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Welcome to the forum. I had some problems last night restoring a db from backup (it was around 14mb) , but the good folks at TCH were able to sort that all out for me. So if you do have any problems getting it up (which I doubt), then just shout, and the TCH techs are only ever too happy to help Quote
taznumber1 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Last night I restore a 70.5mb database file that was .gz compressed to about 10.5mb and it restore to my tch account with no problems at all. I was thinking that I was going to have to upload the database export to my account and write a cron job to run the import which is how I had to do it once, or get tch to run the import for me but that was not the case since I was able to just go into the backup with cpanel and just upload my compressed database and it imported it for me.
