I just installed SpamLookup a few days ago - I am running MT 3.121. I've been getting 50-60 spam messages a day. I have both options checked as "Block on a Match" in the Lookups configuration tab, but I was wondering if there was any way (or any other spam beating devices that you know of) that will just outright stop the comments from showing up at all, even as "Pending?" It is still a major pain in the butt to delete all these messages everyday and they still get emailed when I have the Email Comment Notification thing on. I was just wondering if there is anything else I can do other than just delete the messages - I haven't really found a clear definition anywhere on exactly how to use SpamLookup. Should I be submitting IP addresses somewhere???

Does MT 3.2 do any better of a job with this? I know it has SpamLookup integrated into it already, but is it the same deal as the one you can install yourself?

Thanks for any help!!!

Also, even with Email Notification off, it seems like I am still getting all the notifications for the spam comments. Is this something that SpamLookup does or is something screwy going on with my site?

I'd recommend upgrading to MT 3.2 (see my response below). There is no way for you to submit IP addresses that you think should be blocked - the block list is updated in other ways.

MT 3.2 does do a better job of handling spam comments and trackbacks. MT 3.2 features a new 'junk' folder for both comments and trackbacks, and a scoring system for determining whether a comment or trackback should be 'junked'. The SpamLookup plugin that is packaged with MT 3.2 is much improved over the version that is available for download - it's configuration options are integrated into MT 3.2's 'Plugins' page and it has been updated to make use of MT 3.2's junk scoring system.

If you do upgrade to MT 3.2, you should remove the existing version of SpamLookup you have installed so it won't conflict with the new version packaged with MT 3.2.

SpamLookup (either version) does not send out notifications on its own. If you've disabled e-mail notifications and are still receiving them, there's something else wrong in your MT install.

I found the upgrade to v3.2 cumbersome, due to the change in layout, the new markup etc. Spamlookup probably does work better but.. in the present situation try lowering the maximum links allowed (who posts comments with bunches of links?) or using the word filter. I was getting spam like that but managed to stem it with Spamlookup on MT before v3.2 - it was highly effective.
