Deverill Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I found this. I hope it helps. MSN Messenger bug Release Date: 20/11/03 Discovery date: Sometime around 2001 or 2000 Versions Affected: ------------------ Msn messenger 1.0 -> msn messenger 6.0.0602 Windows messenger all versions Description: ----------- A bug exists in Microsofts msn messenger client. MSN messenger improperly parses the fields during file transfer invitation requests. Particularly the request ip field. This makes it possible to trick the msn client into giving *away* the users ip address without him/her accepting the file transfer first. Quote
Madmanmcp Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Paulo, as Jim has mention, yes its possible. In most chat clients you are at one point or another making a direct connection between computers. And when you connect one on one both computers need the address (IP) of the other to perform the communications. Here is a site that explains how. h_tp://www.techenclave.com/forums/get-ips-your-friends-yahoo-and-3253.html In most clients you can avoid giving out your IP by turning off the options that will expose your IP. In IRC chat I use mIRC and I specifically turn off DCC and do not accept any private chats with anyone. Quote
