lysdexic.net Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 (edited) I looked for a more appropriate forum to post this question, but I can't find any place to post questions about emails. I have dozens of mail forwarders setup and they all forward to the same physical mailbox. This mailbox is a closely guarded secret which I don't divulge publically in an effort to control spam. Let's call it somemailbox@lysdexic.net. I have the SMTP server in Thunderbird setup to use mail.lysdexic.net via SSL on port 465. I have checked Use Name and Password and specified the physical account as the User Name, not one of the forwarders. Further, I have identities configured in Thunderbird so that when I reply to an email it looks like it comes from one of my forwarders instead of my secret physical account. Let's say one of my forwarders is called someforwarder@lysdexic.net When I try to send an email using one of my identities in the From box, Thunderbird connects to the server and asks for the password for somemailbox@lysdexic.net. I supply the correct password and then receive and error stating: Verification failed for <someforwarder@lysdexic.net> This setup has been working for me without any problems, but no longer seems to do the job. Please advise. Edited August 26, 2005 by lysdexic.net Quote
TCH-Don Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 I do the same thing but my isp is now blocking me from using my sites email to send with even port 26. You might try changing to port 26 to see if that works. This is what I had to do, I create copies of my isp email setup and change the reply email address to my own and more copies for my forwards. I first export my isp email for safety then modify my isp email setup to use my forward address changing the description to sen as my forward name then I import the normal ips setup to restore it. I hope this helps. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Further, I have identities configured in Thunderbird so that when I reply to an email it looks like it comes from one of my forwarders instead of my secret physical account. I supply the correct password and then receive and error stating: Verification failed for Since you say that this is a forwarder that you are replying too there is no mailbox associated to the account and therefore no password for the account. But as long as you have your SMTP configured in Thunderbird to send your actual email address and password it should work. If your ISP is blocking port 25 then yes try port 26. If you are sending secure you need to use port 465. Quote
jnull Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 And port 2525 works as well as 587 when 25 doesn't ... alot is determined by your ISP of course. Quote
