I looked for a more appropriate forum to post this question, but I can't find any place to post questions about emails.
I have dozens of mail forwarders setup and they all forward to the same physical mailbox. This mailbox is a closely guarded secret which I don't divulge publically in an effort to control spam. Let's call it somemailbox@lysdexic.net.
I have the SMTP server in Thunderbird setup to use mail.lysdexic.net via SSL on port 465. I have checked Use Name and Password and specified the physical account as the User Name, not one of the forwarders.
Further, I have identities configured in Thunderbird so that when I reply to an email it looks like it comes from one of my forwarders instead of my secret physical account. Let's say one of my forwarders is called someforwarder@lysdexic.net
When I try to send an email using one of my identities in the From box, Thunderbird connects to the server and asks for the password for somemailbox@lysdexic.net. I supply the correct password and then receive and error stating:
Verification failed for <someforwarder@lysdexic.net>
This setup has been working for me without any problems, but no longer seems to do the job.
Please advise.
