Getting Started

Hi,

 

I need to find a location to host an E-Commerce site.

 

I am new to web site construction. I have purchased my Domain name, and have copies of both Visual Studio and Front Page to work with, but could use some tools that would make building my site easier. I am SQL-savvy, so this is not a problem.

 

My requirements for my site are:

shopping cart

inventory tracking

customer tracking

ability to accept credit cards

multiple product listings

search capabilities for products

journal pages with the ability to upload images

shipping tools

ability to calculate tax if needed

anything I am missing???

 

I know most of this is exactly what an e-commerce site does, but I am finding it difficult to find hosts that make it easy to find the right option. I will start with a limited product set that will grow over time, so I don’t need a huge account to start with. I do not know how much bandwidth or storage I need.

 

Can you help??

Welcome to the forums. I would look at osCommerce or Zen cart and see if they fit the bill. We have many users running those carts. As to the package you need you can always upgrade or downgrade as your needs change. Get what you can afford and take it from there.

All the items you listed would/should be a part of any shopping cart program.

I use Zencart on a couple of sites here at TCH, and it works fine. Pretty steep learning curve, but it's free.
