TheMovieman Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Hey all, One of my friends is trying to connect to my site using SmartFTP to upload a large file. But when he tries to connect he gets this message: "An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine." I set him up with a username and password (and tried it myself, and it worked). I googled this problem and came up with it being because of a windows update. One site said to uninstall it, he did and he still gets this message. He tried using another ftp client, still no dice. Anyone have any suggestions? Quote
TCH-Andy Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 My first guess would be a firewall, blocking access. Try looking at the log file you get from SmartFTP (in the bottom window usually) and it should tell you where it fails. Is he using the domain name after the username you created to give an email type username for login (user@domain.com) ? Quote

We did turn off the virus protection but never thought about the firewall, so we'll try that next. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Also make sure the FTP program is using passive mode Quote
