Hi,

I've just started with TCH and I am trying to get a counter set up. The HTML for the counter is <img src="/cgi-sys/Count.cgi?df=index.dat|display=Counter|ft=6|md=5|frgb=100;139;216|dd=A">

When I add this to my page, I get a large box in counter style and color which says

"Could not write to counter file: /var/cpanel/Counters/index.dat"

I added a cgi-sys folder, but that didn't seem to help.

What else do I need to do to make the counter work?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Bob

The cpanel counter is one of those shared things

the images are on the server for all to use, so thats why you do not see that folder and should not create your own.

I have had mixed results playing with the cgi counter.

Some work and some do not.

I know its only for show so I stopped using them.

And just look at my stats in cpanel.

If you really want a counter for visitors to see

I would try a php script from hotscripts.com

One that stores the visitor ip in a file at least

so it will not just increase with page refreshes.

Thanks Don for your suggestions. The counter worked fine without having to do anything else once the domain was switched over from my previous host. Thanks also to the other TCH moderators for the warm welcome!
