harvey_s Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 I have a site under development at www.powellohio.org. I created a subdirectory of public_html called gv and put a skeletal index.html there. I can access that page with the url www.powellohio.org/gv but would like to be able to use gv.powellohio.org instead. the url gv.powellohio.org does not work and I'm wondering how to set up the directory structures so that it does work. The goal is not to redirect gv.powellohio.org to www.powellohio.org but rather to have a unique home page for gv.powellohio.org and for each of several other subdomains I intend to set up. Is the solution to create a gv subdirectory at the same level as public_html instead of below it ? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 In your cpanel: 1) Go to Domains 2) Click on Manage SubDomains 3) Enter the info and that should do it. Quote

I have now tried redirecting gv.powellohio.org to www.powellohio.org/gv. That didn't solve the problem but I am guessing that I need to wait for this to propagate. Is that correct ? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 If you have entered gv in the empty text box before your domain on that page (which should be all you need to do to set up a subdomain), it should work more or less instantly. You can also try to delete the current folder gv and then set up the subdomain. That will automatically create a folder named gv under the public_html. If this doesn´t work, please submit a ticket to the tech guys (link on to of page) and they will have a look if somethings wrong. Quote

My question is whether I need redirection in order to be able to use gv.powellohio.org. Are you saying above that this should have become available automatically when I created the subdomain ? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Yes. By setting up the subdomain as described above, should do so you can access it by either www.powellohio.org/gv or gv.powellohio.org. No other redirection should be necessary. Quote
