OnlineAutorama Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 I changed passwords now my Forum and Photo Gallery stopped working so i had to change the password back to what it was. When i changed the password it said that it changed it for Frontpage and MySQL Databases successful. What went wrong or what happened? I did a search for password change and such and got alot of go in to cPanel and click change password but nothing i found helped me with these problems. Did i miss a manual somewhere or something? Is there a book on this stuff? Man sometimes it gets confusing and very very Frustrating people... Man All i wanted to do was change my password and i never thought i'd spent the next 90 minutes trying to figure out what happened or what went wrong. Once i change my password what do i need to do next to get my Forum and Gallery working again? Whoever said this was simple needs to be shot. lol j/k. Quote
OnlineAutorama Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 (edited) What password are you changing? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well,.. After reading your message I went back into cPanel to see if there were more than 1 place to change my password at and there isnt. The only Change Password I could find was under Site Management. So to answer your question,... "Site Management" I mean I even wrote it in the title. Edited June 14, 2005 by OnlineAutorama Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Changing your cPanel password should have no effect on your forum or gallery as those programs use their own configuration files and MySQL databases. Quote

Hmm, coppermine is not in my cpanel? Did you by chance use your cpanel usename for the database user name instead of creating a user for the databases? Quote
OnlineAutorama Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 I did the only thing that i knew how to do. I went to Manage Mysql. Under Db: I entered the name of the Database i wanted to create and clicked the button Add Db. Then i went to the the section on the same page that says User: I selected my account name. then Under Db: I selected the Database name i just created and then i clicked Add User to Db: with Privileges: All. OnlineAutorama Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 Coppermine was there because i noticed that it was an old version. Plus something else that isnt there any longer is the ability to submit your URL to the search engines so they probably both went to the same place. I dunno,... Where did the Submit URL go to and that might answer our question to where Coppermine went to. Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 If you want to change the cpanel user password you can create a new user, add to db, change forum and galley configs to the new user and password or just change the configs to reflect your new cpanel password Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Where did the Submit URL go to and that might answer our question to where Coppermine went to. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It may have been dropped by the cpanel folks the submit url was not a good thing anyway, I have read its better to do it your self. What? Maybe I can get another solution for what I'm trying to do. Okay. I'm buying the script SuperSitesPro from http://www.supersitespro.com/ since I do not know much about installing scripts they will charge me $15 and they'll do the install for me. They need for me to create a MySQL database named ssp they also require this information: Quote from the email I received from SSP below. "All I need from you to install the program is the following information: FTP ADDRESS FTP USERNAME FTP PASSWORD WEB SITE URL MYSQL SERVER ADDRESS MYSQL DATABASE NAME MYSQL LOGIN USERNAME MYSQL LOGIN PASSWORD You will need to create a MySQL database on your web hosting account, please create one called "ssp"." So I thought it was going to be as simple as changing my password and then supplying them the required information needed to do the setup for me. What should I Do? Quote
OnlineAutorama Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 Oh BTW I changed the password back and now forum and gallery is working again so if you try to visit the site you'll see it once again working because I CHANGED THE PASSWORD BACK. Quote

TCH-Don Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Ok To be able to change your cpanel password and not affect any databases you need to log into cpanel > MySql create a new user with a password then in MySql add that new user to your databases find the forum and gallery config files and edit them to reflect the new user user: cpanename_newuser password: userpassword Quote

TCH-Thomas Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 I don´t know about the original problems with changing password, since I have never had any problems with it, but you may wanna submit a ticket about it. As for how to create a mysql database. It really is simple. It may look like its more difficult to do it than it is. The very first time I had to do it, I got much help by viewing this tutorial movie about it. Quote

So,... have i been creating the databases wrong to begin with? Why when i change my password does it effect the databases? What is your suggestion or what do people do when they have another service install a script for them? Can TCH install the script for me? Quote
TCH-Dick Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Sorry but we do not offer installation services. However, I did something that we do not do and have made the neccesary changes for you. I think you should look into the tutorials that we offer and read the manuals for the scripts you install for future reference as this is not something will be willing to perform again. You can now change your password without it affecting your scripts. If you still have these issues regardless of the changes I made then you will have to submit a ticket. Here are the changes I made so you can see what was done. 1. Created two new users and added them to there relevant database. If you are not sure how this is done please view this tutorial. http://help.totalchoicehosting.com/cpanel_...createmysql.htm 2. Located the config file for Gallery at /public_html/gallery/include/config.inc.php I then changed the following and saved the file. >$CONFIG['dbuser'] = '******'; // Your mysql username $CONFIG['dbpass'] = '*****'; // Your mysql password 3. Located the config file for vBulletin at /public_html/forum/includes/config.php then changed the following and saved the file. >// ****** DATABASE USERNAME & PASSWORD ****** // This is the username and password you use to access MySQL. // These must be obtained through your webhost. $dbusername = '******'; $dbpassword = '*****'; While that may look like a lot of work it took less than two minutes. The only optons that you will have in the future are to read the manual or pay someone to maintain these scripts. We do not offer support for 3rd party scripts I just did this to help get you on the right track. Quote

I changed my password. Forums works, Gallery doesnt still. I completly understand not supporting 3rd party scripts. TCH-Dick Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 As for the other script, in cPanel add new account under FTP Manager for the directory ssp. Then follow the MySQL tutorial to create the database and provide them with following information. FTP ADDRESS = ftp://ftp.yourTCHsite.com/ssp FTP USERNAME = user@onlineautorama.com FTP PASSWORD = passwordyoucreate WEB SITE URL = onlineautorama.com MYSQL SERVER ADDRESS = onlineautorama.com:3306 MYSQL DATABASE NAME = cpanelusername_ssp MYSQL LOGIN USERNAME = cpanelusername_useryoucreate MYSQL LOGIN PASSWORD = passwordyoucreate Quote

You sure So when i create a database I dont use my login info for the Add User after making the database. I need to create a user then add that user right? Correct, you can add just one user and use that for all databases. I prefer different users as its easier to keep track or change the pass if need. Quote
OnlineAutorama Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 yeah i just checked gallery not working. to make things worse,... I changed PW back to when it did work and guess what??? Gallery still doesnt work. Hmm. What now? brb son pickup run... Quote
