Lianna Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 All ye mightier than me, can someone tell me if this is possible? I have a domain / account that has FP enabled. All's well and good on the main account. I add a FTP User that should also have FP extensions. Does it? It doesn't appear to, but I'm missing some critical elements to test...uumm...like FrontPage! LOL (I don't use it anymore, traded it in for discount on Dreamweaver!) Anybody out there know the answers to the following? 1) Does the FTP user have FP capability without any extra work on my part? 2) If I am trying to replicate the contents of an existing site into the new FP user's space, what do I need to copy and what can I leave alone? Any guiding lights would be appreciated. Lianna Quote
Ayman_ Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 No Cant be done. Front page extensions are public_html dependent. Doesnt frontpage stink? Quote
Lianna Posted December 5, 2002 Author Posted December 5, 2002 Ok.. That's alright by me. (and yes, FP DOES stink! All that fluff and filler for what?) Figure now's my chance to do some begging for the webmaster of that domain to go to Dreamweaver, or CuteSITE Builder! Lianna Quote
Twisted Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 who would ever use frontpage anyways? It makes a mess out of html coding. When I used to use it I found myself having to go back through the html code and cleaning it up so the page would load faster. Reason why now I use strictly notepad and write the html by hand Quote
Lianna Posted December 6, 2002 Author Posted December 6, 2002 Notepad???? Wow. There are editors that will really simplify your work and they don't fluff up the code like Frontpage. Granted, you could go to extremes of cash range. Never used it, but I hear CoffeeCup Free HTML has something going on. CuteHTML is helpful code editor and fairly inexpensive. Dreamweaver, of course the elite, is amazing but expensive. I upgraded my FP to Dreamweaver for a discount. Go to Macromedia's site and search as they were offering big $ off Dreamweaver if you give them a valid Frontpage product key (serial number). I think mine was $100 off the Dreamweaver/Fireworks duo. TCH-Don Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 I love NoteTab from http://www.notetab.com html friendly (color coded tags), html shortcuts........... Spellchecker, Thesaurus, favorite Document tab, and more free, and $20 pro version, I used it to make a complete site. save and click on the IE icon to launch the html file for preview. Quote
Lianna Posted December 6, 2002 Author Posted December 6, 2002 Stumbled on another free one this afternoon: AceHTML Freeware But if their freeware html editor is as riddled with adds and spyware as their Free AceFTP, then I'll pass. Maybe their paid version would be "ad-free". While I like the look, feel and speed of AceFTP freeware, I will NOT use it when Ad-Aware blocks 12 cookies per execution. Really. 12 is a bit excessive just for opening the app. Lianna Quote
Twisted Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 Hmm all those sound good but I think I will stick to notepad... It's much cheaper Quote
disasm Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 NOTEPAD??? What is wrong with you people. Is everyone here tied to Bill Gates and Blue Screening every day. Now if you want a real html editor use vi. And if you dont like how long it takes to code an entire page, write a bash script that codes it for you. (Works real good on pages with photos, like a photo album). Who wants to point and click when you can code. Twisted said: " Hmm all those sound good but I think I will stick to notepad... Disassembler Free Source Rocks!!! easier to read the code (no disassembly required) Quote
Lianna Posted January 4, 2003 Author Posted January 4, 2003 disasm, To each his own. Good point about the notepad actually being part of the OS, though! L Quote
