Guest jkb Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Before I switch over to TCH, I'd like to know if a database driven website that is heavy on php scripting will run "fast" on your servers. On a shared hosting plan... even a top notch plan... should I expect that at certain times during the day that scripts and queries take a long time to execute? Let me give you some backgroun on where I am with another hosting company: I've got a site that is almost entirely database driven. PHP pulling queries from MySQL. About 6,500 pages, of which 200 or so static, the rest dynamic. (Let me know if you want the url so you can better answer my question) My current hosting provider gives me a lot of logical reasons as to why my site is slow at times but I keep hearing how fast PHP and MYSQL is supposed to be. I wrote a timing script for a couple of my pages to see how long it was taking the scripts to execute. Sometimes it's less than a second... and other times it takes 20 sec, 40 sec... even 80 seconds! Before I go through the hassle of changing hosting companies... I'd like someone to set my expectations to a realistic level. If you could host my site and my pages would load in six seconds or less... I'll be SOOOO happy. But if I just need to put up with a slow site because of limitations when running a database generated site on a shared host... well, I'd rather know that up front. Sorry for the long winded post... but I'm currently paying big monthly fees for 3 sites... not a problem if the pages loaded fast. Please let me know if you would like the url to give me your opinion. Thanks Quote
TCH-JimE Posted May 9, 2003 Posted May 9, 2003 Hi, I see no reason why it would be slow on our servers for, although anything which heavily zaps the CPU usage will be warned about, although I can't see your site doing this. Mysql is only as fast as mysql is. If the same script is taking between a few and 80 seconds to run, there is something wrong. As long as your not wanting to run a server on it, and abide by TCH rules and regs, you site should be fine. However, best thing you could do, is give us a try. Why? We offer a 30 day money back policy, so you could upload your site and have a play and if you don't like it, then you can have your money back. Although I doubt you will want to leave! Jim Quote
