pompey_john Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Hello there, I have received an email from my ISP telling me that I can no longer use their smtp server. This is not a problem for the email accounts I have here, as they are already set up to work through my domain. But,....... I also have two fastmail imap accounts. Can I set these to run through the smtp server at my domain? Thanks in advance Quote
TCH-Don Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Are you saying your ISP will not let you send e-mail using your account with them? or to send through them as other non ISP accounts? Quote
j2k4b Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 If you have a email account with you most ISP's won't deny you access to the SMTP Servers. Did you SPAM? ~ J/K Quote
cajunman4life Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Yes, that seems quite odd that your ISP is not allowing you to use the SMTP servers anymore. What ISP do you use, if you don't mind me asking? Quote
pompey_john Posted May 25, 2005 Author Posted May 25, 2005 The ISP is British Telecom. I phoned them up ages ago when setting up broadband and they happily gave me the smtp server details. Then just the other day I got a mail saying that only users of their special BT/Yahoo service can use the smtp server. Well I am not paying more for the same broadband service just so I get a yahoo acount. The swines. ln the end I just upgraded my fastmail account so I am using their smtp server now. I have to say I have been very happy with fastmail, and would recommend them to anyone. A first class service; although having .fm at the end of my email address has thrown quite a few people who presume it will be .com or even .co.uk. Upgrading their was always the most likely way forward, I was just hoping there was a free alternative,...possibly here. To answer the question about spamming. No, I have not been spamming. I can honestly say I do not have the first idea how to go about it. And if I did, I certainly would not. There is enough nonsense traffic online already. For example, I did got a rather interesting mail. It appears to be a variant of the Nigerian send money scam, this one coming from.... Chen Qingxuan, Lloyds TSB Pacific Limited, Hong Kong Branch. Does anyone know if there is a place I can report this? Quote
