ace Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 HI, I have setup an FTP account for my domain. I am wondering if there is a way to allow downloads but restrict uploads to this account (folder). I do want to keep it password protected. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I do not believe there is a way to allow one without the other. What you could do is create a web protected folder to place the files they can download. Quote

I know a windows ftp server could, surely *nix can too. Quote

You don't have that much control in cPanel and shell access is not available on a shared hosting account. Quote

One more thing to add to my list of 'why I liked running my own server'. So what you are saying then, is that even anonymous users will have write access and could fill your available space (and take your bandwidth), just for the fun of it, since you can't control what your FTP users do. I knew there was a good reason for deleting the anon ftp accounts, but you can't even do that in cpanel!. Edited April 22, 2005 by Pendragon Quote
