hi guys , just want to ask.... i have hosting plan here with tch , i have my email comming from tch. im wondering if i could setup a linux mail server lets say qmail or postfix .. can i download all my emails from tch server and distribute among my coworkers rather than they get strait from tch using internet. can this be done. i hear that normally .. if you want a mail server , you have to use fixed ip and you must point your domain to your fix ip then only u can get the mail server up and running. so can i download all my coworkers emails from tch and distribute to them? also pls explain more about mail server. im thinking about setting up linux mail server or ms exchange. thankyou

Good question NightShyamalan. I'm sure our resident Linux guru TCH-Raul can provide us with some insight along with a few other more knowledgable family members. (Now you got ME curious too! :) )

You may want to look into a tool like Fetchmail if you are on a dynamic ip address or don't want your mailserver to be the primary. It allows you to download mail from a remote mailbox/mailserver and distribute locally.

Not sure on Linux, but I know windows based mail servers can collect mail from other sources for redistrobution. You can still have mail going to the existing system, then just let your mail server collect it. The trick then becomes, how do your employees access the internal mail server?

That's not too difficult either, assuming here you are networked, just assign the mail server an internal IP address and have everyone set thier email clients server to that address.

Sending mail is another issue, as you must make sure that outgoing mail has a valid address on it, or TCH's servers won't (or at least *shouldn't*) forward it.

If you want to have all mail go to your internal server, then you will either need a fixed IP, or one of the Dynamic DNS systems (such as tzo.com) to keep up with your address changes.
