Talwynor Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 (edited) Ok, I'vebeen mostly playing with creating various hobby sites largely through MS Frontpage. Im looking to learn more, yet keep things simple, in an effort to make the boards a little more interesting. I'd like to add the following three components to my index page and im hoping there's an easy script/php mod install to accomplish the task. I'm looking to add to my index page: 1. a News/announcement section....probably pulling from a phpbb New/announcement forum 2. A section that calls your attention to Recent topics and 3. A "Who's online" Any other suggestions of easy scripts/mod installs woyuld be greatly appreciated (along with locations). Thanks for any help you might lend. *EDIT* Would installing PHP-Nuke or Xoops (looks easier) from cp panel do much of what I'm looking for? Edited March 2, 2005 by Talwynor Quote
TCH-Dick Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Since you are already using phpbb(i think), then PHP-Nuke would be a great choice. It already has phpbb intergrated and provides all of the options you are looking for. You can use the cPanel install or install the latest version yourself. Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Dont forget that if you install Nuke to go over to NukeCops or the like and get the fixes to harden the install. Quote
stevevan Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Remember you can always ask your "family" for help on installations. Also, you might want to consider moving away from Frontpage (not that FrontPage is bad for initially learing how to design websites...I used it!). In the long run, you will learn a lot more about HTML and the like than you ever thought possible by going to another program. And like serpentine said, make sure you have the latest version to help thwart any unwanted attacks on your site. Quote
