Hello,

I've installed IPB.. I'm trying to place a graphic jpeg in place of the blue banner. The graphic is on my hard drive and I'm trying to figure out how to simply upload it and see it appear.

Next, I've created a few forums and a new user group.. what I want to do is.. I want to have the ability to have members join and NOT let them see specific forums or categories created. So if a regular member signs in.. they couldn't see a category or forum that was created for say Forum Owners.. but the Forum owners can see it. So in essense.. I want to be able to allow some members see some things and others not. I noticed on the IPB site they have different software there which allows you to "show forum". I've been messing with stuff and I got it to disappear once.. but I don't really understand what I am or am not doing.

Ok, now that this may be clear as Mud! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ron

Welcome to the family and forums Ron :)

You control who sees forums and posts by creating groups.

Then you set group access levels to the forums. Then you set members to belong to those groups.

Thanks.. could you please give me a bit more detail on this one in this area.. a tad confusing and it's not quite working "cut and dry".

Thanks

I created a user access group called "users", I then set a person to that access level. I then edited a forum to that access level.. when I logged in.. I was still able to see much more than what I wanted.

This is why I feel a bit more detail may be needed as I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks.

Ok, after doing a bit of investigating.. I did the following and it worked.

I created a group called "user", then I edited the specific forum and took permission away from the "user" group.. then I found a user and adjusted that name to the group "user" and then I clicked on mask and clicked on over ride with the "user" group permission and updated it. I went back in under that user and viola.. was unable to see anything that user group wasn't meant to see.

If I did that correctly.. Thanks!

Sounds like you're on the right track icadmin!

I use the Invision BB too. At first it was a little confusing, but the more you work with it, the more intuitive it becomes and before you know it - piece-o-cake!

Keep up the good work!

I don't see why not, give it a try ;)

I've been trying to do just that. What file is it that is pointing to logo4.gif? Seems like something else is pointing to that file. Even if I just rename my file.. it doesn't seem to want to work.

Hello.. I tried these direction..

log into your admin CP

goto skins and templates

manage HTML templates

manage HTML

global HTML elements

select Board Header (logo, links, etc) > edit

about 14 lines down you will find the place to modify.

look for

img src='{ibf.vars.img_url}/logo.jpg'

however once I get to "manage HTML".. there is nothing there to edit. This is a new install and I have managed to replaced the current graphic with my own however I need to do a bit more editing. I need to adjust the centering and remove the url and possibly remove the rest of the blue bar. Is there another way to get there besides following these directions?

Thanks.

if you right click your current forum logo

you will see the path and file name like

/forums/style_images/1/logo4.gif

if you use ftp to goto that folder on your site

/forums/style_images/1/

and replace the original logo4.gif with your own logo4.gif

it sholud work.

A link would help, here or PM if you want.

Yes, I was finally able to get the gif replaced. I had to upload the gif and then using file manager rename the gif on the site for it to work.

Now I'm having issues with this..

log into your admin CP

goto skins and templates

manage HTML templates

manage HTML

global HTML elements

select Board Header (logo, links, etc) > edit

about 14 lines down you will find the place to modify.

I can't get this to work once I get to manage HTML.. there is nothing there to edit.

Ok when I goto the skins and templates and click on html template just under that.

Then click on manage html at the right.

Then click on Global HTML elements

and find Board Header (logo, links, etc) and click on edit single

and then I see the code for the board header.

The alternative is to copy the

forum/Skin/s1/skin_global.php

to your computer and edit it
