webgyrl Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I was wondering if anyone here knows where I would find program icons. I actually need icons for Word and Adobe PDF to use for graphics for a site I am doing where there are Word Document and PDF downloads. I figured it would be best to find the icons already on my system for those programs and use them. I figured they might be in the Program folder, but I can't find them! Anyone know where they would be in my system? Thanks, Nat Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I dont know where to find an icon for word, but for Acrobat (pdf) please see: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/distribute.html?readstep Quote
Madmanmcp Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Program icons come in several ways, they can be a single file (.ico, .icn) or they can be imbedded in the executable program (.exe, .dll). You can search for the .ico to find what icon files are on your system. There are also programs out there that will strip the icon out of executables and create a single icon file for you. I don't know the names of these programs off the top of my head, I have not used them since Windows 95 but I am sure they are still out there. I would suggest you search download.com for them. try here h_tp://www.winsite.com/win95/icons/ h_tp://www.icon-maker.com/ Quote
TCH-Rob Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Couldnt you just search for the icon or image on the web? I found the following in two minutes that way. Quote
webgyrl Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 LOL I looked for "microsoft word icon" and all I got were sites that gave instructions on 'how to click' on the icon to start a microsoft word document. What search term(s) did you use Rob? I did end up getting a program that extracts icons from the dll or exe files. I just can't figure out how to convert them to a gif or jpg file from the ico file. I was looking for the 32x32 icons that were hopefully on transparent backgrounds specifically... but those ones you found will work! I just wish they weren't on white backgrounds... just doesn't look quite right. h_tp://www.indiemanagers.com/members/coe.htm (see bottom- -oh also ignore the PHP errors) Thanks, Nat Quote

webgyrl Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 Ok well I think I did it. I got an icon extraction program and then I found this nifty little converter called "Icon To Any" by aha-soft and it seems to have done the trick! I think I have to improve my Googling skills tho... Quote
