I'm having trouble uploading emoticons to my forum. I go to other sites find a emoticon I like, right click and save as to my pictures. The I go to the emoticon manager in the cpanel, I then browse my computer for the selected emoticon and click upload. Then I get a message that the upload failed.

Any suggestions?

Try the html folder where you loaded your forum.  There should be a folder called emoticons

The closest thing I could find was in the file manager folder wich read

/ (Current Folder)

Create New Folder

Upload file(s)

.gnupg 700

.htpasswds 755

.neomail 700

.trash 700

etc 755

mail 750

public_ftp 755

public_html 750

tmp 700

www 750

Create New File

.addon-installlog 0 k 644

.addonscgi-InvisionBoard 0 k 600

.contactemail 0 k 600

.cpanel-ducache 3 k 600

.lastlogin 0 k 600

Is it one of these because there was no emoticon folder that I could find?

Where ever you installed your forum.

I assume you installed it into a sub folder of your public_html folder. You need to go into what ever folder youinstalled the forum to and then the html folder there. You will then see the emoticons folder.

Well I can go into the disk usage and find 2 folders with the name emoticon in them. But I cant change the permission from there. Other then that I'm totally lost. :thumbup1:

public_html/invisionboard/html/emoticons

public_html/invisionboard/html/emoticons

When you use cpanels filemanger

as you have discovered you click on the folder icon to go inside that folder

so when you get to public_html/invisionboard/html/emoticons

click on the name emoticons to see options on the right including change permissions.

If you have an ftp program (highly recommened)

is it is much easier to just select all the files on your computer that you wish to upload and in the other window navagate to the public_html/invisionboard/html/emoticons folder and drag the selected files on your computer and drop them into the window on your site.

No permissions to change.

These are the only files I have in the file manager

Click on the folder icons to navigate into folders. If you click the folder/file names you'll be presented with some options on the top-right pane, among which you will see the option for changing file permissions. Hope that helps.

I know how to change the permission but I dont know were the emoticon folder is.

If your forum software is up and running, it should come with emoticons already installed (which, I assume, is where you're uploading your chosen emoticons to).

Open the panel to post a new topic, and open the emoticon panel from there. Right-click an emoticon, select "Properties" and you'll be able to follow the path to the emoticon folder from there.

(Of course, that's assuming that you do have the forum software up and running.)

I've done it a couple times when I couldn't remember specific paths to photo directories, so it should work for this too.

I'd go from public_html/invisionboard/html/emoticons.

You should be able to change the permissions from the folder in cPanel or your FTP software.

Log into your cPanel and then click "File Manager."

Click the folder icons in this order - public_html / invisionboard / html, and then click the folder name "emoticons" (not the icon itself).

On the right hand side, you'll see options that include "Change Permissions." Make sure all of the checkboxes are ticked.

You could also log into your FTP client and follow public_html / invisionboard / html, and then right-click on the "emoticons" folder.

Permissions can be set through either "properties" or "actions - CHMOD."

That's why I explained how to navigate into the folders, because it seemed to me that you were looking in the wrong place but didn't know how to get out of there. :clapping:

Follow marie's instructions, that's exactly what you have to do to get to the emoticons folder and change its permissions :clapping:

I dont have the file you mention in the file manager. In one of my above posts I list the ones in the file manager. Also when I click on one of the folders they do not open with more icons. I just get a option in the upper right hand corner that reads...

Delete this folder and all files under it

Rename this folder

Change Permissions

Move this folder

Copy this folder

If I new how to reach the folder I know how to change the permission. I cant find it in my file manager.

You need to click the folder icon to the left of public_html.

That will open up that folder and display other folders and files. Then find the invision folder and click the folder icon to open it. Now you should see the html folder. Click the icon to the left of that and you should see the emoticons folder.

Do not click on the name of the folder but the folder icon to the left of the name.

I feel like a idiot now :goof: Thanks for all the help. I think we got her figured out.
