thapliyal Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 I am trying to setup my blog (MT), so far somehow i have been able to get it running. - Now after i created a few categories, when I "Rebuild Site", I am getting this error. Build error in template 'Main Index': Error in <MTSubCategories> tag: <$MTCategoryArchiveLink$> can be used only if you have enabled Category archives. Now i dont know where/ how do we enablethe catehory archive.. - Also I only see this page www.thapliyal.net/mt/. No entry or categories are there. Can anyone give me any idea, on how do solve this problem. Thanks in anticipation Quote
borfast Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Hi thapliyal, and welcome to the forums! Unfortunately, I don't know how to help you because I don't use Movable Type but we have many MT users here on the forusm, so hold on and I'm sure someone will be able to help you I'm moving your post to a more appropriate section of the forums, to expose it to the people with the knowledge and for better organization Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Welcome to the forums, thapliyal Go into your MT and select weblog config. Then select archiving. There should be an archive type for category. Make sure it is checked. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Moving for organization Sorry Raul, I moved it again to the NEW blogs forum. Quote
borfast Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Right, Bruce. Sorry. The lack of sleep is catching up on me. Quote
thapliyal Posted February 6, 2005 Author Posted February 6, 2005 Welcome to the forums, thapliyal Go into your MT and select weblog config. Then select archiving. There should be an archive type for category. Make sure it is checked. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks! Bruce. That helped. But now it seems i couldnt get the database configuration correctly. - The main page shows the categories, entries and all correctly [http://www.thapliyal.net/mt/design/]. - But when i click on any entry this is the error that i get [http://www.thapliyal.net/mt/design/archives/cat_design_and_ui.php#000012#more], and worse I dont know a bit about SQL database whatever. [ SQL/DB Error -- [ 1. Error establishing a database connection! Are you sure you have the correct user/password? 2. Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname? 3. Are you sure that the database server is running? ] SQL/DB Error -- [ 1. Error selecting database thapliy_mtdatabase!Are you sure it exists? 2. Are you sure there is a valid database connection? ] SQL/DB Error -- [] Error executing error template.] Now when i click on any entry - Can someone from TCH help me setting the DB, permissions correctly once ( if that's the problem, again I am not sure). That would be a great favour. Thanks again Quote
borfast Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 That's probably because you're setting an incorrect username or database name. If you're not using your cpanel username to access the database (in which case the username remains unchanged), the username should be in the form of yourcpanelusername_dbusername Similarly, the database name should be in the form of yourcpanelusername_databasename Note that the database name should be in the form above, regardless of whether you're using your cpanel username to access the database or not. Let me know if this helps Quote

Let me know if this helps <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks Raol, This ay really sound very dumb, - Now I deleted the database and again added new one, added the User , and also changed the password. - then I added the password in the mt-db-pass file. So far so good. What i see now is this [http://www.thapliyal.net/mt/design/archives/cat_design_and_ui.php] which i guess is because I need to "rebuild" the blog. Now the most stupid part of this story: I cant login to my "Movable Type settings" I tried my old username/password, and also the Melody/ Nelson, but I cant login to it. - Please can you tell me how do I recover the username/Password. Or do I have to again install MT ( mt-load.cgi). ??? And lastly dont throw me out of this forum, let me get my blog rolling Quote
marie b. Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 Download and install MT Medic. Takes all of three seconds, and it's extremely handy. You can alter any authors and passwords from outside the Movable Type interface. Quote

This is the page now i get [http://www.thapliyal.net/mt/mt-load.cgi]. Will need to check with some Admin guy from TCH,... This stuff is frustrating, Quote

TCH-Rick Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 The permissions were wrong for the mt-load.cgi file. All perl files should be set to 755. I have corrected that and the file is loading. Please delete the file now and you should be able to log in. IM me at tchgururick if you have any problems. Quote
