raevin Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 I'm not sure about the subdomain rules. If I created a subdomain will they have access to my main domain files? I'm also not sure about how to have them access the domain through their own FTP either....Any assitance please Quote
TCH-Andy Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Hi, I'm not sure I understand the question fully. If you had a domain myfamily.com then you could have subdomains photos.myfamily.com and news.myfamily.com or mum.myfamily.com You can create an FTP account that only has access to the photos directory - and then they would only have accesss to the photos subdomain. Is that what you mean? Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Remember a subdomain is really a folder with a little redirection. First goto cpanel > subdomains and type in a name for the subdomain lets say we use flowers, then click on ADD thats all you need to do to create the subdomain. If you look at the public_html folder, you will see a folder called flowers Now for the user, in cpanel > ftp manager click on ftp accounts then click on the link [add ftp account] type in a user name and password and quota (how much space they can use). lets say we use tulip for the user and petals for the password and 10 for the quota (10 meg) for the folder name put flowers Now the user will use ftp to access the folder flower to upload by seting up an ftp client as follows host: ftp.domain.ext user name: tulip@domain.ext password: petals remote dir: (leave blank) check (use passive mode) And they will only have access to the folder flowers and below but not above that folder. and you can view the folder as flowers.domain.ext or domain.ext/flowers Quote
