Miriam Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 I have a client who wants to be able to update their own site content. I looked at various CMS solutions, and most seemed too complicated and/or expensive. I'm experimenting with Moveable Type, and can see that it has potential to be used as a very simple CMS system, and I'm wondering if anyone has used this program as a simple CMS. Quote
LisaJill Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 I did when I used MT and it was completely not worth the amount of pain it is. This was pre version 3 and in v3 beta so I can't say if it's improved, but it doesn't really seem to have. As far as I know, this is the most common way of handling it. But that may be outdated now. Beltza Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Each CMS has its pros and cons. In theory it is possible to use MT as a CMS, though it is a bit of a hack, since MT has been created for blogging. I know that Adaptive Path use MT as their CMS, but they had some very clever people helping them to implement it. The benefit of MT being easy to set up might get lost when you want to bend it to a page-based CMS. Though not me favourite, I have used Mambo Open Source to set up a site very quickly. Another tool I like is eZ Publish, though it might take some more time to set up and get to know it. Quote
LisaJill Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Mambo is really not appropriate on shared hosting, just try to bear that in mind. Many people use ExpressionEngine for a CMS, and it was really built for that although the semantics of it sometimes seem otherwise. There are really many great pure CMS packages (I've heard some like drupal -also started as a blog and is one of the few i never had a yen to install and check out). You should check out CMS Matrix (google it, sould be the first hit, I don't have the link handy though). =) Quote
