oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 How will I know when my domain name is propagated? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 I almost said "You wont". However that is basically true because there is a lot of servers that needs to be updated around the world. Even if you can access your site one time does not mean the next visit will take same route to your site (five minutes later). Now picture all visitors from around the world taking different routs through all these servers... But allow 72 hours and all should be well. Quote
oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 Ok thanks...so any uploading done to the site until 72 hours is up should be uploaded to the "numbered address"? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 Yes, to be on the safe side. But (there is always a but...) try to upload to ftp.domain.com too. If its successfull you should see your updates on www.domain.com, if you dont see it, use the ip-number. Quote
oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 ok thanks alot...i'm new at this and tch has helped alot Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 No problem. By the way, what is your domain? I can see if it works from here in sweden. Quote
oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 Ha...it does work...thats my test page up...at least here in South Texas Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 If it says TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE TEST PAGE Then the domain works from here too. I think you can start to use the ftp.domain.com, but remember there may be occasional glitches during propagation. Quote
oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 Oh and if anyone wants to see an unfinished product in the work go to: http://www.cwcampbellelectric.com/electric/electric.html Please criticize and suggest as much as you'd like. Quote

Could use a little more colors and images. Nah, seriously, I know you said its still being constructed, so why not ask about it in the website reviews when you feel ready and we will happily review it. Quote
oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 ok cool...I didnt know there was a website reviews. I'll take it there when I'm done. My images and flash don't seem to be loading, but they work great here on the desktop. I guess I'll have to go searching through the code. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 ok cool...I didnt know there was a website reviews. I'll take it there when I'm done. Not having access to your domain structure you have this page in a folder called "electric". Viewing the source your images should be in a folder called "images" in the electric folder. And your flash stuff should be in a folder call "flash" in the electric folder. Quote
oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 Thats right...thats how I have it set up right now the electric folder contains electric.html, a folder called images which contains allthepics.gif or.jpg, and a folder called flash which contains all the flash Quote
oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 Ok i think i might have found the problem. Does capitalization matter once something is uploaded? I think all of the pictures and flash are in lowercase in the source code and capitalized on all the files. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 You bet capitalization means something. These are Linux servers and not Windows so they know the difference between upper and lower case. To be safe you should always use lower case. Quote
oreo619 Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 arrrggghhh....they didnt teach us that in my Information Systems class ...well at least not the ones I showed up to Quote

Weezy Yes they are, but I didn´t want to include that in my reply here because it does not include all TLD´s as far as I knows. Sorry for not telling before, oreo619. Quote
