Transfers And Email

Greetings -

I want to switch to tch (based on strong recommendations from friends, citing great tech support).

 

My first question is - my email address (which is my domain name), is bouncing back emails send TO me from a few, select people only. Its really strange, and really making me mad. The tech support for my current hosting company seems to be ignoring my emails (or maybe in some terrible irony they are getting bounced back to them). So, do you think this is a problem with their servers or something, and switching to a new company will fix it?

(I have already checked any type of spam/junk filter/ blocked list, etc...)

 

Second question: my email address is very important to me, so if I transfer my domain over, I can re-setup that same email address, correct? And if I do that, how long (approx.) will my email be down? The length of the transfer process?

(I realize I don't need to transfer the domain, but I would just assume do it since I don't really want to deal with that company any more).

 

Third question: Is there a step-by-step guide for transfering to you guys? I can't seem to find much info about it (including pricing) on your site.

Hi,

 

1. To determine fully what the issue with the bounced email, we would need to see the full headers for the bounced email.

 

2a. Yes, you can setup the same email addresses here.

 

2b. During propagation of your domain name (changing from the old site to the new) some email will go to your old host, and some to the new one here. During that time I would check the email in both places using the IP address rather than the domain name. That way you won't miss any of the emails.

 

3. I would;

• Sign up for hosting
  
• copy / upload your site here using the DNS
  
• Check your site works here - using the IP address
  
• Change the DNS to our nameservers
  
• allow it to propagate fully
  
• Transfer the domain name to us as a registrar (as you say you don't have to, but would like to)
