cheapwebsolutions Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 I'm already with TCH and I'm staying. Yes, I can go elsewhere cheaper, but in my year with TCH I have had no issues with any of my sites other than an occasional hiccup which is solved by the time I shoot off an email or sign-on to AIM. Here's my hopeful delema ... I may be swamped with website business very soon. I currently host about 8 small web sites on a reseller account. I sell templates and modify them. A company that gives web sites with their purchases has contacted me about possibly doing 50-70 web sites per month for them. I just got off the phone with them and they would like me to provide hosting as well. I just started looking at the packages again. I've literally had so little problems, I've almost forgotten who I host with!! Now this could all lead to nothing, or a trickle, or a boat load of business. I'm taking it slow right now, but I'm wondering what I would need to move up to? Would I up my reselling account ... or if I'm hosting 100 or more site do I go right to a dedicated server? How many 20 page sites would fit? I'm probably going to be hosting a lot of shopping carts as well. Any advice, experience, gotchas to look out for? Thanks in advance and thanks for the great service thus far. Mike Quote
DarqFlare Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Well, what you really need to do is project how much space you'll need on a server, as well as how much bandwidth you're going to consume. If you think that you're going to need more than the highest reseller for either of those two things, I'd suggest going with a dedicated server. Actually, I'd suggest going with a dedicated server if you'll approach about 85-90% of those numbers, because your expansion could quickly cause problems. Don't forget about system resources either. Even if you'll be fine with space and bandwidth, if you're going to be utilizing a lot of system resources (Unlikely, but not impossible), then I'd consider a dedicated for that as well. Congratulations! Quote
cheapwebsolutions Posted December 1, 2004 Author Posted December 1, 2004 These guys are throwing around high volume numbers ... I'm trying to weed through it all. If they are on track with what they say I will definitely need help. I've gathered up a few designers I know just in case. I would also agree that the dedicated server is the way to go. From what I see they prices are well worth it. I could get my money back easily. Thanks for the advice. Quote

cheapwebsolutions Posted December 1, 2004 Author Posted December 1, 2004 Curious, looking for experience here. It seems I can get more space going the virtual hosting route and putting a bunch of domains on it. If I did this though each user would not get their own cPanel right? I know a majority of them won't know what to do with it anyway! Wondering if I should mix up the packages a bit? That's the only thing that has bothered me about the reseller account, you seem to get shorted on space ... 1.5 gig as reseller, the same price as virtual gets you 2.0 gig. But I guess you get the benefits of the cPanel and all? Quote
taznumber1 Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 With Virtual Hosting you can only host one domain. You can park more domains with them but all the domains will have to point to the same root site. You can have unlimited number of sub domains that point to different folder in the account. Like site1.domain.name point to a folder site1, and then site2.domain.name points to domain.name. So it sound like with what you are trying to do you will have to either have a very large reseller package or get a dedicated server thru tch to handled what you are trying to do. And you are right that each user could not get there own cpanel but you can not have more then 1 domain pointing to the account unless the other domains are parked as listed above. Quote
