Gidday all, as always... Rock Sign

I want to change the name of my website etc and have a read thru but just want to clarify what I am thinking.

I have an account to-to-to.net registered thru godaddy but want to get a new domain name thru TCH.

Here is what I think I will do...is it correct?

1. Purchase new domain name thru TCH

2. Send ticket to get account name changed for my current account to new name (currently tototon)

3. Do a redirect from old domain name to new one (this way both urls will point to new account)

4. Buy beer

Just wondering where to put redirect from old url to new account...in htaccess?

Wayne woooot ;)

All is correct, but for number 3, you can ask the techs to park your old domain on top of the new one. Then domain1.com and domain2.com will lead to same site.

Have fun when doing number 4. ;)

One thing to keep in mind is that if we park an additional domain on the account you can access the account using either domain. It does not really matter which is the "main" domain associated with the account. You can also create email addresses for both domains.

There is a risk at changing the domain name of the account and then parking the old domain. It is rare, but I have seen problems develop with email accounts and databases. It is sometimes necessary to completely reprovision the account. That is especially true if the username is also changed.

Thanx guys for the info.

Seems something has gone wrong.

I purchased the www.fukuokaguides.com url and sent in a ticket and got my account name changed to that with the www.to-to-to.net put on top.

The reply I got was "I have changed the domain name for your primary hosting account with us from To: fukuokaguides.com to to-to-to.net.And I have parked to-to-to.net on fukuokaguides.com.

Please verify that its fine from your end."

BUT...I get...

http://www.to-to-to.net/ gives www folder contents (files etc).

http://www.to-to-to.net/index.php/ gives what looks like a 404.

http://www.to-to-to.net/phpwebsite/ gives website but an "old" frontpage I dont want to show.

http://www.to-to-to.net/phpwebsite/index.php/ gives same.

http://www.to-to-to.net/phpwebsite/index.p...ies&category=44 gives page I want to show.

*Redirect 301s dont respond.

http://www.fukuokaguides.com with or without phpwebsite/ or phpwebsite/index.php following gives a "no website configured at this address" error.

I sent reopened the ticket but havent had a reponse yet...maybe theyre out to lunch.

Do I need to change my config files to have www.fukuokaguides.com as my MAIN address?

I can access my cPanel thru the to-to-to.net address ok.

Regards, Wayne

PS, if this is not the place to post please move accordingly.

This needs to be handled through the Help Desk as it is a technical problem. Someone there will respond as soon as possible. You can reopen the ticket to see if there has been a response. I looked and the new domain is not showing as registered. If it was just registered it will take 24 to 72 hours to propagate and work with the site.

Thanx Rick, I see what ou mean about the time to propogate...I thought I was looking at a TCH error page but infact its a cPanel.net error page.

Also, why dont my redirect commands work now? Well, one to my to-to-to.net/mobile/ still does.

Gues I gotta wait for propagation. Maybe a beer is in store till then.
