Can you put a microsoft Access Database on TCH and be able to let a user add or make changes to a *.MDB File?

Thanks Lisa...Do you know of a decent program to convert mdb files to a sql db?

rbb213, I haven't used MS Access in years but doesn't it allow you to export your DB into an SQL file? If so, you can try to import that SQL file into MySQL using phpMyAdmin, although knowing Microsoft's way of doing things, I'd bet they use some proprietary "SQL" that is not compatible with other DB engines... :P

God, I dont know what Im doing....I am afraid, I may mess up my site.....

;)......

Who is gonna come to my rescue?

Goto cpanel > backup

download homebackup and all databases and e-mail filters and alias

If you mess up your site

goto cpanel > backup > upload home back up

and any databases needed.

Ignore the full backup, you can't ulpoad here

The home backup contains all of your site, folders, files and email

The rest is in the db and filter, alias downloads.

I think that Raul's right on here -- it should be no sweat to export your mdb tables to either SQL directly, or to ASCII which can be imported into a SQL table. Export options aren't always easy to find in Access; you should probably check under the "tools" menu, which I think has what you want.

Oh, wait, yes, I remember seing a post about that: using access to export an .mdb tables directly into a MySQL database! rbb123, try setting up a database user in cpanel, add it to the database where you want to insert the MDB data, add your computer IP address to the authorized hosts list for that database and then, go back to Access, do what you were trying to do and when it asks you to connect to the SQL DB, give it the name of your server (serverXX.totalchoicehosting.com), the database username and password you just created and see if it works.

Sorry if my post is not very clear, I'm in a hurry but I didn't want to leave without answering this.

Oh, if it doesn't work, keep looking for a way to export the data as an SQL file. Maybe Access even allows you to create a virtual SQL database as a flat file, which it uses to export the data... hummm... don't you have to create a new DSN connection in Windows in order to use... ok, nevermind, I haven't used those things in years, so I really don't know what I'm talking about and besides, as I said, I'm really in a hurry, so I can't elaborate more on this, which makes me wonder why I'm still here.

I created the dsn name, but it still wont let me in....do i just type in...

serverXX.totalchoicehosting.com ?

and the username and pass?

if so, It still wont let me in to create, even though that user name has ALL privledges...

You have to add the wildcard % or your home computer's IP address to the allowed section in CPanel.

The hostname is www.******

Remember your database name and username has your cpanel username in it.
